From Early Detection to Advanced Care

The Lung Cancer Center at Beijing Arion Cancer Hospital addresses the full continuum of lung cancer care. Our journey begins with early screening and risk assessment of pulmonary nodules — using AI-assisted imaging analysis to distinguish benign from suspicious lesions, ensuring that patients receive timely intervention without unnecessary procedures.

For diagnosed lung cancer, our MDT team — comprising thoracic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and interventional pulmonology — collaborates to develop a personalized treatment plan. Early-stage patients may benefit from minimally invasive surgical resection (VATS or robotic-assisted), while advanced-stage patients access the latest targeted therapies, immunotherapy (PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint inhibitors), and precision radiation techniques including SBRT and IMRT.

Our interventional pulmonology program offers advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including navigational bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and radiofrequency ablation — providing minimally invasive options for diagnosis and localized treatment. Throughout the journey, the MDT team meets regularly to assess treatment response and adjust the plan in real time.

Our MDT Approach to Lung Cancer

Four core specialties, one coordinated team — ensuring that every lung cancer patient benefits from multidisciplinary expertise at every decision point.

⚔️

Thoracic Surgery

Our thoracic surgeons specialize in minimally invasive approaches — video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted resection — for lung cancer. These techniques reduce postoperative pain, shorten hospital stay, and accelerate recovery while achieving complete oncologic resection. Sublobar resection, lobectomy, and sleeve resection are tailored to tumor location and stage.

💊

Medical Oncology

Our medical oncologists deliver systemic therapy tailored to the tumor's molecular profile. This includes targeted therapy for EGFR mutations, ALK rearrangements, ROS1, and other driver mutations, as well as immunotherapy with PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint inhibitors. Chemotherapy regimens follow the latest international guidelines, with neoadjuvant and adjuvant strategies integrated into the MDT plan.

⚛️

Radiation Oncology

Advanced radiation therapy options include Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) for early-stage inoperable tumors and oligometastatic disease, and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) for precisely targeting tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. Our radiation oncologists work with the MDT team to integrate radiation into the overall treatment sequence.

🩺

Interventional Pulmonology

Our interventional pulmonologists provide minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Navigational bronchoscopy and EBUS-TBNA enable precise tissue sampling for molecular testing. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) offers a localized treatment option for patients who are not surgical candidates, while airway stenting and debulking relieve symptoms in advanced cases.

Treatment Options

A comprehensive arsenal of lung cancer treatments, from minimally invasive surgery to cutting-edge systemic and localized therapies.

⚔️

Surgical Resection

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery for lung cancer. Minimally invasive approaches with smaller incisions, faster recovery, and comparable oncologic outcomes to open surgery.

🔬

Targeted Therapy

Precision medicine targeting EGFR mutations, ALK rearrangements, ROS1, BRAF, KRAS G12C, and other driver mutations. Molecular testing guides the selection of tyrosine kinase inhibitors and other targeted agents.

🪨

Immunotherapy

PD-1 and PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitors that activate the patient's own immune system to fight cancer. Used as monotherapy or combined with chemotherapy, guided by PD-L1 expression and tumor mutational burden.

💊

Chemotherapy

Evidence-based chemotherapy regimens for neoadjuvant, adjuvant, palliative, and combination settings. Platinum-based doublets and newer agents, integrated with targeted and immunotherapy within the MDT plan.

⚛️

Radiation Therapy

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) for early-stage and oligometastatic disease, and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) for conformal treatment. Precise targeting with minimal damage to healthy lung tissue.

🔥

Radiofrequency Ablation

Image-guided radiofrequency ablation for localized tumor destruction — an option for patients who cannot undergo surgery, or for treating recurrent or metastatic lesions with minimal invasiveness.

Pulmonary Nodule Screening Program

Early detection is the most powerful weapon against lung cancer. Our screening program identifies and risk-stratifies pulmonary nodules for timely intervention.

🩺

AI-Assisted Imaging

Low-dose CT screening combined with AI-powered nodule detection and characterization. Our AI model analyzes nodule size, morphology, density, and growth patterns to calculate malignancy risk — helping distinguish benign from suspicious nodules with high accuracy.

📅

Structured Follow-Up

Suspicious nodules are tracked with structured follow-up protocols based on international guidelines (Fleischner, Lung-RADS). Our team monitors nodule growth and characteristics over time, ensuring that malignant nodules are identified and treated at the earliest possible stage.

MDT Risk Assessment

When a nodule requires further evaluation, our MDT team reviews the imaging, patient history, and risk factors together. This collaborative assessment determines whether to monitor, biopsy, or proceed directly to treatment — with the full team's consensus guiding every decision.
