The breakthrough came when the radiology and ultrasound team proposed contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS)-guided core needle biopsy under local anesthesia.

CEUS precisely distinguished the tumor's active proliferative zone from necrotic areas and major vessels in real time. By injecting microbubble contrast agents and tracking perfusion patterns, the team mapped the tumor's "live" regions — areas with active blood supply and viable cancer cells — while clearly delineating the carotid artery, jugular vein, and necrotic core. This live vascular roadmap enabled the interventional radiologist to plan a safe needle trajectory that maximized tumor yield while completely avoiding vascular structures.

From Tissue to Therapy: In-House GMP Manufacturing
